S. Alfred York

York

S. Alfred York, 84, of Middletown, Ohio, went to be with his Lord Friday morning when he passed away at his home.

He was a devoted family man. The joys of his life were his wife, daughters, grandchildren, great grandchildren, family and friends.

Her was born Aug. 8, 1921, in Butler.

He was a proud veteran of World War II, serving in the 8th Army Corps and the 2nd Air Division, 93rd Bomb Group. Mr. York served 2½ years in Norwich, England, in the Medical Corps. There he was a member of the championship volleyball team at the Norwich base.

Mr. York came to Middletown, Ohio in 1955, and he worked at both the Butler and Middletown Armco Steel Works. He retired after 41 years as a supervisor.

Mr. York was an avid reader, had a great appreciation of nature and gardening, was a talented creative woodworker, and possessed the gift of storytelling.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Middletown, for 50 years. He was also a member of the American Legion Post No. 218, the Elks Lodge, and was a Kentucky Colonel.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Betty N. (Russin) York, whom he married Aug. 2, 1942; his two loving daughters, Allene and her husband, Richard, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, and Carol York of Dallas, Texas; two grandchildren, Ryan and his wife, Jessica, North of Vicksburg, Miss., and Peter North of Upper Sandusky; two great grandchildren, Caleb and Cody North of Vicksburg; two brothers, William of Fairless Hills, Pa., and Nicolas and Marie Russin of Kingsport, Tenn., and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Tony, John and Frank; and a sister, Barbara.

<B>YORK</B> — Friends of S. Alfred York, who died Friday, Feb. 10, 2006, will be received from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday at the BREITENBACH-McCOY-LEFFLER FUNERAL HOME, 517 S. Sutphin St., Middletown. Visitations will also be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, before the funeral at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 2910 Central Avenue, Middletown, with the Rev. Tom Ramsey officiating.Friends will also be received from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday at the THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, Butler. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
