Max Brown won three events and Matt Celestin and Brian Burka won two each, but the Butler boys track and field team dropped a 79-71 decision Tuesday at North Allegheny.

Brown won the 800-, 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs for the Golden Tornado, who were without their best high jumper and one of their best sprinters.

Brian McCandless has a sprained ankle and Fred Pinto has a sore hamstring.

"We're hoping to have both back for next Tuesday's meet with Seneca Valley,"Butler coach Rick Schontz said. "I'm happy with the way others stepped up and filled the gaps."

Celestin won the high jump and long jump. Doug Moran won the 200 and 800 meters, finished second in the 100 and ran a leg of the Tornado's winning 1,600 relay.

"A loss is a loss, whether it's by three points or 300,"Schontz said. "They have an outstanding team, but I think we do, too.

"Hopefully, we'll win out and meet them again in the playoffs, where the result may be a little different."

Butler's girls dropped a 103-47 decision despite wins by Kendall Butch in the high jump, triple jump and pole vault.

In other action:

• Dan Dickey won the 110- and the 300-meter hurdles to lead the Seneca Valley boys track and field team to a 120-30 win over Pine-Richland Tuesday afternoon.

On the girls side, Jen Boyd won three events, but the Raiders fell 78-72.

• Bill Elliott won the shot and the discus to lead the Knoch boys (4-1) to a 100-50 win over Hampton.

• Brendan Reilly captured the 800 and 1,600 and was the anchor for the winning 3,200 relay as the Freeport boys squad (2-1, 2-1) rolled past Valley 102-48.
