Earl G. Zeigler

Earl Gaston Zeigler, 90, of Prospect died Monday afternoon at his home after an illness.

Born Aug. 20, 1915, in Mars, he was the son of Russell and Edna Gaston Zeigler.

He was a member of The Presbyterian Church of Prospect, where he was a former deacon and a trustee.

Mr. Zeigler transported dairy products for 33 years at the Prior Milk Co. in Portersville. He then worked for eight years at Agway, where he transported fuel until his retirement.

He served in the Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945 and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with three Bronze Stars and the World War II Victory Medal.

He was especially proud of what happened on Aug. 14, 2002, when he was invited to Pittsburgh to be recognized and honored by the French government and was awarded a certificate of appreciation for his participation in the liberation of France.

Mr. Zeigler was a member of the Harmony Lodge 429 F&AM, New Castle Consistory, Legion of Honor and the Harmony Historical Society.

For years, he served on the Prospect Planning Commission. He also was a past member of the Slippery Rock School Board and the Midwestern Intermediate Unit Board.

He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis Roth and her husband, Jerry, of Butler, Jean Taggart and her husband, Larry, of Slippery Rock and Joyce McClymonds and her husband, Terry, of Prospect; and his grandchildren, Brian Roth and his wife, Barbara and Janis McClymonds, all of Prospect, Amy Taggart Horn and her husband, David, of Pittsburgh and Christopher and Matthew Taggart, both of Slippery Rock; and two great-grandchildren, Brendan and Megan Roth of Prospect. A sister, Arline Gallaher of Zelienople also survives.

His wife, Kathleen Rodgers Zeigler, whom he married Jan. 29, 1951, died Dec. 6, 1987. He also was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Janice Edna Zeigler.

<B>ZEIGLER </B>— Friends of Earl Gaston Zeigler, who died Monday, May 22, 2006, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the <B>Edward L. Raisley Funeral Home</B>, 387 Main St., Prospect. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Robert Allison, his church pastor, officiating.
