BEAVER FALLS — Butler residents Nathan Bilski and Joe Palermo placed second and third, respectively, in the Heritage Tour's first stop in the Pittsburgh region at Blackhawk Golf Course in Beaver Falls Tuesday.

Bilski fired a 73 and Palermo a 78 behind winner Del LeViere of Pittsburgh, who won with a 1-under par 71.

The tour is for players ages 18 to 22 and is scheduled for a few more area matches, including Birdsfoot Golf Club in Freeport today.

Each tour stop is a qualifier for the Champions Round, which will be held at Foxburg Country Club. The top three men and women at each tour stop will be invited to compete in the champions round.

INDIANA, Pa. — Brett Rinker of Slippery Rock carded an 80 at Indiana Country Club to win the 10-and-11-year-old age group in the North East Junior Golf Tour Monday.

WEST MIDDLESEX — The Slippery Rock under-14 fast-pitch softball team finished third in the Mercer County divisional playoffs, which were held in West Middlesex Saturday and Sunday.Members of the team are Breana Northcott, Laia Mortimer, Susan Timko, Stephanie Hilliard, Anna Timko, Jamie Myers, Shawna Peace, Morgan Robinson, Cassie Vogan, Katie Myers, Morgan Brazel.The coach is Bob Moritmer.

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — Four Butler County baseball players were instrumental in BB Rooner Baseball capturing the Mayors Invitational Tournament in Battle Creek, Mich., with a 14-4 victory over the Grosse Pointe (Mich.) Redbirds.Winning pitcher Ryan Hays of Slippery Rock High led BB Rooner to its fifth tournament title. Slippery Rock teammates Josh Cress and Mark White, as well as Butler's Brian Warheit, played big roles in the victory.The team finished the season with more than 40 wins for the 10th straight season.

SEWICKLEY HEIGHTS — Jon Pratkanis of Butler finished 15th in the U.S. Amateur sectional qualifier held Monday at Sewickley Heights Golf Club.Pratkanis carded scores of 74 and 84 for a two-round total of 158, which was 14 strokes over par and 15 strokes behind event winner David Vallina of Langeloth, Pa.Ryan Smith of Mars finished in a tie for 27th with Greg Doherty of Mississauga, Ontario. Both golfers shot rounds of 86 and 81 for a total of 167, 23 strokes over par.
