Clara Mae Knauff, 85, of Mars died Thursday evening at Valencia Woods Nursing Center.

Born April 1, 1921, in Concord Township, she was the daughter of Arthur and Etta Shanor Bell.

Mrs. Knauff was a housekeeper at St. John Specialty Care Center in Mars. She was a graduate of the Pittsburgh Beauty Academy.

She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Mars, where she was a trustee, assistant Sunday school teacher and member of the Elizabeth Circle and E.S. Group.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Stan (Marietta) Zidanic of Pittsburgh; three sons, Henry A. Knauff (Laura) of Charleston, W.Va., James A. Knauff (Mary Alyce) of Tionesta, and David L. Knauff (Cynthia) of Valencia; and grandchildren, Holly Smith, John Zimmerman and Adam, Noel, Christopher, Benjamin, Maria, Malachai and Andrew Knauff. Also surviving are two great-grandchildren, Ella Ray Knauff and Sean Smith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry N. Knauff, whom she married Aug. 29, 1947, and who died May 25, 1969.

<B>Knauff</B> — Friends of Clara Mae Knauff, who died Thursday, July 6, 2006, were received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the <B>McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home, </B>238 Crowe Ave., Mars. Funeral services were held in St. John Lutheran Church, 420 Beaver St., Mars, at 10 a.m. today with the Rev. Robert Rigg officiating.Burial was in Lakewood Memorial Gardens, Cheswick.Memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Church or Mars Public Library, P.O. Box 415, Mars, PA 16046.
