Evelyn Jane Hoff, 77, of 5685 Red Oak Road, Cottageville, S.C., died Aug. 9 at the Trident Medical Center in North Charleston, S.C.

Born April 21, 1929, in Butler, she was a daughter of Lawrence E. and Isabel Thompson Crouch.

She was a homemaker and was an active citizen of the Cottageville and Walterboro communities in South Carolina.

Mrs. Hoff was a longtime volunteer at the Colleton Medical Center, where she was known for her pleasant smile and the love and attention she showed to all.

She was a member of the Senior Friends, a volunteer for the Safe Kids Program in Walterboro and was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Walterboro Lodge 1988 and the Order of the Eastern Star.

She will be remembered by family and friends for being a volunteer for many causes and for being a wonderful southern cook.

Surviving are a son, Charles William Hoff and his wife, Darlene, of Cottageville; two daughters, Cynthia Whitesel and her husband, Henry, of Nottingham, Pa., and Phyllis Keener and her husband, James, of Morristown, Pa.; and six sisters, Annabell Chancellor of Macon, Ga., Nell Campbell of Grove City, Mary Bell of Butler, Margaret "Peg" Reeder of Slippery Rock, Patricia Ross of Forestville and Barbara Coffman of Franklin, W. Va.

She also is survived by seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

She was the widow of Forrest Eugene Hoff. She also was preceded in. death by three brothers, Edwin, William and Glen Crouch, all of Butler, and a sister, Martha Heeter of Butler.
