Thomas Owen Donaldson
Thomas Owen Donaldson, 76, of Davis, Calif., formerly of Renfrew, died Feb. 14 at home with his family.
Born May 16, 1930, in Glenfield, Allegheny County, he was the son of Homer L. and Vera Hosey Donaldson of Renfrew.
He served in the Navy from 1948 to 1957, was honorably discharged and awarded with the China Service Medal, two Good Conduct Medals, the Navy Occupation Ribbon (European Clasp), the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. During his tour of duty, he traveled to Spain, Italy, Korea and several U.S. ports.
Mr. Donaldson was an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles and traveling to Las Vegas and Reno in Nevada. He also was a dedicated fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates and rarely missed any televised games.
A licensed surveyor, he worked most of his career in the surveying field. In 1994, he retired from the service industry in Las Vegas, residing in Davis.
He is survived by his wife, Luz Donaldson; his best friend of 55 years, Max Holbert of Washington state; two sons, John Thomas Donaldson and William Owen Donaldson and his partner, Norman Fitzpatrick, all of Davis; a daughter, Donna Marie Donaldson-Tucker of Washington state; his first wife, Roberta Donaldson-Thompson of Washington state; a sister, Norma Jean Noto and her husband, Bruno, of Fayetteville, Ga; and three brothers, Kenneth L. Donaldson and his wife, Barbara, of Renfrew, Larry E. Donaldson and his wife, Chi, of Durham, N.C., and Gerald A. Donaldson and his wife, Jo, of Butler.
He also is survived by five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Lee Donaldson; and two sisters, Mary Alice and Carolyn L. Donaldson; and a daughter, Alice Arlene Donaldson.
