James R. Plunkard Sr.
James R. Plunkard Sr., 81, of Slippery Rock died at 9:05 p.m. Saturday at the Grove City Medical Center.
Born Feb. 26, 1925, in Butler, he was the son of Paul Ray Plunkard and Elizabeth Ellen VanBuren.
He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of VFW Post 249.
Mr. Plunkard retired as a sheet metal worker for the Sheet Metal Workers Local Union 12 in Pittsburgh.
He enjoyed golfing, fishing, playing cards and traveling. For the past 16 years, he and his wife had spent the winter in Okeechobee and Fort Myers, Fla.
Surviving are his wife, Thelma V. Plunkard, whom he married Nov. 24, 1947; a daughter, Brenda Plunkard of Wampum; three sons, James R. Plunkard Jr. of Pulaski, Lawrence County, George L. Plunkard of Portersville and Ronald W. Plunkard of Slippery Rock; 10 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.
He also is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Richard (Colleen) Coulter of West Sunbury and Mrs. Richard (Lois) Voelker of Butler, and a brother, Paul Plunkard of Allison Park.
He was preceded in death by a son, a daughter, two brothers and a sister.
