GC thrower 2nd in shot put after discus win

SHIPPENSBURG — Kristy Woods nearly had a clean sweep.

The Grove City Highjunior finished second in the Class AA shot put competition at the PIAA Track and Field Championships Saturday, a day after winning the discus title.

Woods threw 41 feet, 10 inches to finish behind Shante Evans of Bayard Rustin, who reached a distance of 44-6¼ to win the event at Shippensburg University.

Woods scored 18 of Grove City's 21 points at the PIAA meet, which was good enough for seventh in the state.

Woods' teammate, Hanna Casalnova, placed sixth in the 400-meter dash.

Seneca Valley's Da'Lynn Mills finished third in the Class AAA 200-meter dash with a time of 24.99 seconds Saturday. The senior placed second in the high jump Friday.

Unionsenior Tiffany Corle, coming off a District 9 record-setting performance in the javelin, threw 136-10 to place sixth and earn a state medal.

On the boys side, Seneca Valley's Connor Barrett placed fifth in the Class AAA high jump, clearing 6-4, and Karns City senior Tim Berteotti placed sixth in the Class AA 110-meter hurdles.
