Mary E. ‘Teddy’ McDowell

Mary Elizabeth “Teddy” Richardson McDowell, 83, a 60-year resident of McDowell Lane, Slippery Rock Township, died at 12:38 p.m. Thursday at the Trinity Living Center, Grove City, after an illness.

Born Jan. 30, 1924, in Pine Township, Mercer County, she was the daughter of Willard William and Ruth Grundy Richardson.

A 1941 alumna of Grove City High School and a graduate of the New Castle Beauty School, she had been manager at the French Beauty Shop in Mercer.

Mrs. McDowell was a member of the Center Presbyterian Church, Grove City, where she was active in Sunday school and vacation Bible school, sang in the choir and served as church pianist for 20 years.

She also served as leader of the Keister 4-H Club and was a seventh-degree member of the London Grange.

Surviving are her husband, Harold George McDowell, whom she married Oct. 30, 1946; three children and their spouses, Carolyn R. and Eugene McCandless of Slippery Rock, Susan E. and Dennis Ledebur of Titusville and George F. and Zoe McDowell of Slippery Rock; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A sister and brother and their spouses, Marlene and Raymond McFeely of Grove City and Sun City, Ariz., and Robert W. and Jan Richardson of Durham, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by a brother, William M. Richardson.

MCDOWELL — Friends of Mary Elizabeth “Teddy” Richardson McDowell, who died Thursday, May 10, 2007, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Cunningham Funeral home, 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Stanley Keehlwetter, interim pastor of her church and Rev. David Lingle, former church pastor, officiating. Burial will be at the Slippery Rock Cemetery.Memorial donations may be made to the Deacons Fund, Center Presbyterian Church, 333 Center Church Road, Grove City, PA 16127.
