Dr. Leland M. Read
Dr. Leland Marlowe Read, 87, of Renfrew died Sunday at Sunnyview Home.
Born July 27, 1919, in Southey, Sask-atchewan, Canada, he was the son of Howard Leslie and Marguarite Elsa Cristoph Read.
He had served in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. He was a veteran of the Canadian Army in World War II and a surgeon for the Royal Canadian Navy Reserves.
He graduated in medicine from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, in 1952. He interned at the Regina General Hospital in Regina, Saskatchewan, then went into practice with his father and Dr. H.B.S. deGroot in Regina from 1953 to 1962. He then practiced in Edgemont, S.D., and in Rantoul, Ill., until he retired in 1988 and moved to Pennsylvania.
He was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church. He had been a Mason in Illinois and a Shriner in Canada. He was a past member of the Associated Artists of Butler County and the Butler Writer's Guild.
Surviving are his wife, Elaine Dorrell Ewart Read, whom he married May 24, 1951; two daughters, E. Patricia Read of Phoenix and Glenda L. Bayman of Urbana, Ohio; a son, Donald L. Read of Arvada, Colo.; seven grandchildren, and a great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, a brother and a sister.
<B>READ</B> — A memorial service for Dr. Leland Marlowe Read, who died Sunday, May 13, 2007, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 218 E. Jefferson St. with the Rev. Bruce Geary officiating.
