Winfield C. Murphy
Winfield Connell "Merf" Murphy, 77, of Highland Drive, Butler, formerly of Scenic Hill Lane, Rimer-sburg, died at 10:50 p.m. Tuesday at his daughter's home in Summit Township following a period of failing health.
Born Jan. 1, 1930, in East Brady, Clarion County, he was the son of Clarence Samuel and Margaret Mae Harriger Murphy.
He was a 1947 graduate of East Brady High School, where he participated in basketball and played the baritone horn in the band.
Mr. Murphy worked for L.E.F. & C. Railroad from 1956 to 1967. He then became an agent and field manager for the Baltimore Life Insurance Co. for 25 years, retiring in 1992.
He was a member of East Brady Alliance Church, where he was a worship leader for years.
He also was the treasurer for years of the Clarion County Federation of Sportsmen. He was an Eagle Scout, and he served as scoutmaster with the East Brady Troop and was a program director at Camp Coffman during the 1950s.
Mr. Murphy enjoyed singing, gardening, fishing and hunting.
He was married in East Brady Nov. 19, 1949, to Lois Jean Seybert, who survives.
Also surviving are three sons and their wives, Denny and Stacey Murphy of Sligo, James and Terri Murphy of Rimersburg and David and Bambi Murphy of Kittanning; four daughters, Sharon Brown and her husband, Ron, of Landisburg, Pat Potter of Rochester, N.Y., Laurie Bowser and her husband, Aaron, of Rimersburg and Michele Renwick and her husband, Kevin, of Butler; 22 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
As the last surviving member of his immediate family, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Robert Lee, Clarence Don, Forest and William Murphy; and a sister, Mrs. Sally Laird.

Hillis Funeral Home</B> in Rimersburg and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Faith Fellowship Alliance Church, Fared Drive off Route 68, near Butler.Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev.
