John Y. Zavacky
John Y. Zavacky, 92, of Butler died early Sunday morning at the Sunnyview Home.
Born in Butler, July 26, 1914, he was a son of Andrew and Anna Youshock Zavacky.
Mr. Zavacky had lived in Florida most of his adult years and had retired as a salesman at the Dunn's Hardware Co., Daytona Beach, after 30 years. Following his retirement, he returned to live in Butler.
During World War II, he had served with the Army Air Corps in Central Europe as a part of the 451st Bomb Group, where he was a flight crew member on a B-24 bomber and had once been shot down on a bombing mission over Italy. He was a life member of the American Legion Post 117, the VFW Post 249, the Butler Moose Lodge 64 and the Butler Elks Club.
He belonged to SS. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Lyndora.
Surviving are a brother, George Zavacky of Butler; an aunt, Ann Youshaw, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother.
<B>ZAVACKY </B>— Friends of John Y. Zavacky, who died Sunday, June 3, 2007, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The Rev. Piasius McGrath, his church pastor, will officiate.
