Charles F. Blatt, 87, formerly of East Brady and Erie, died Monday at Chicora Medical Center.

Born Sept. 28, 1919, in East Brady, he was the son of John C. and Katherine Keener Blatt.

He was a graduate of East Brady High School and enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and travel.

Mr. Blatt was a self-employed carpenter/cabinet maker and also was a machinist at Cope Vulcan Co. in Fairview, Erie County, for 19 years.

During World War II, he was a technical sergeant in the Army Air Force's 390th Fighter Squadron, 366th Fighter Group. He was involved in the European air offensive at Normandy, Northern France, the Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He was the recipient of a European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal with six Bronze Stars and a Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of American Legion Post 402, East Brady, where he belonged to the rifle squad.

He was a member of St. Eusebius Roman Catholic Church, East Brady, where he served as a Eucharistic minister and was on the maintenance committee. He built the tabernacle tower at St. Eusebius and the altar and ambo at St. Richard Roman Catholic Church in Rimersburg.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth J. Blatt of East Brady, whom he married April 4, 1959; two daughters, Charlotte Jones of Mechanicsville, Va., and Judith A. Zboyovski of Erie; a stepdaughter, Ruth Ann Franz of Erie; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, two brothers, and a stepson.

<B>BLATT</B> — There will be no visitation. A memorial Mass for Charles F. Blatt, who died Monday, July 9, 2007, will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Friday at St Eusebius Roman Catholic Church, East Brady. The Rev. William Barron, sacramentalist of the church, will officiate. Burial will be at the church cemetery in Brady Township, Clarion County.American Legion Post 402 will conduct military honors at the cemetery on Friday.Memorial donations may be made to East Brady Public Library, P.O. Box 463, East Brady, PA 16028; or to St. Eusebius Church, 301 E. Second St., East Brady, PA. 16028.Arrangements are being handled by <B>Buechele Funeral Home</B>, East Brady.
