Roadwork slated near Tech 21 park

Warrendale-Bayne will be upgraded

MARSHALL TWP, Allegheny County — Improvements to Warrendale-Bayne Road near the entrance of the Tech 21 Research Park are scheduled to continue this spring.

The state Department of Transportation will spend about $5 million to widen and add turning lanes to 1.5 miles of the road, said PennDOT spokesman Jim Struzzi.

The project will begin in April and will continue through 2010.

Tech 21 is a 223-acre technology and office park just south of CranberryTownship.

This is the second phase of the road project related to Tech 21, which is under development. The site is designed for 16 buildings, with each facility averaging 80,000 square feet for a total of 1.3 million square feet.

This is in addition to sites for a hotel, two restaurants and a 120-unit multifamily residential development.

MEDRAD is one of the park's first major tenants.

The company, which also has a building under construction in Butler County, is a manufacturer and distributor of high tech medical devices used in diagnostic and therapeutic medical procedures.

The first phase of the Warrendale-Bayne project included $2.3 million in work that improved access to Tech 21 at the intersection of Warrendale-Bayne Road, Route 19 and the Warrendale Interstate 79 exit.

That project, which was completed last year, added turning lanes, traffic signals, signs, drainage upgrades, and guardrails.

The project was federally funded with local matching funds.
