County man accused of defrauding Pittsburgh employer of $1M

PITTSBURGH — Federal prosecutors have accused a Butler County man of defrauding his Pittsburgh-area employer out of about $1 million.

Anthony J. Aliucci, 38, who is charged with mail fraud, worked for Global Nursing Solutions Inc., which recruits foreign nurses to work in U.S. hospitals, according to the indictment.

Aliucci was the company's vice president and chief operating officer from May 2005 to May 2007 and also did business with Global for about two years as an independent contractor through his company, Nurse Resource Group, prosecutors said.

The indictment accuses Aliucci of making false representations to Global about costs he incurred while recruiting 200 foreign nurses for Global. In 2005, he formed another company, International Healthcare Corp., and billed Global for work not performed by that company, prosecutors alleged.

Aliucci was a quarterback at Indiana University of Pennsylvania from 1989 to 1991. He led the team to the 1990 NCAA Division II championship game and set several school records.

Attorneys for Aliucci, who was released after posting bond, did not immediately return phone and e-mail messages seeking comment Friday evening.
