Herman helps SRU to DH sweep

Grove City High graduate Billy Herman slapped an RBI single through the right side of the infield in the bottom of the seventh inning to help the Slippery Rock University baseball team to a doubleheader sweep of Gannon atCritchfield Park Tuesday.

Herman's run-scoring single capped a 4-3 win in the second game of the double dip. The Rock won the first game 9-5.

The sweep lifted SRU's win streak to five games and improved its record to 10-5.

Junior right fielder Scott Bender went 6-for-8 in the two games with three RBI.

Sophomore outfielder/designated hitter Jacob Oswalt had four hits, including a 3-for-3 effort in the first game.

SlipperyRock High grad and team co-captain Mike DeCola picked up the win in the second game, striking out all three batters he faced in the top of the seventh inning.

It's been a wild first 15 games for The Rock, as SRU pitchers hit seven batters in the two games Tuesday and have plunked 25 batters so far this season.
