Geraldine Smith-Durso
Geraldine Laura "Gerry" Smith-Durso, 82, of Slippery Rock died at 4:10 p.m. Tuesday at Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh, after a three-month illness.
Born in Fisher, Clarion County, Aug. 7, 1925, she was the daughter of Hudson Clair and Myrna Pearl Sommerville Rifenberrick.
She was a member of Center Presbyterian Church, Slippery Rock.
She retired as the owner and operator of Geraldine Smith's Beauty Salon in Slippery Rock after 43 years.
She was a longtime volunteer for the Feed My Sheep Food Cupboard in Slippery Rock and enjoyed gardening, canning and baking.
Surviving are her husband, Joseph J. Durso Sr., who she married Nov. 5, 1998; a daughter, Bonnie J. Renick and her husband, William, of Slippery Rock; a stepdaughter, Mary Catherine Durso of Grove City; a stepson, Joseph J. Durso Jr. of Wildwood, N.J.; two brothers, Hudson Clair Rifenberrick Jr. of Erie and John A. Rifenberrick and his wife, Donna Kay, of Fisher; seven grandchildren, John Shidemantle of Blackwood, N.J., Terri Shidemantle of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., Debra Sullivan of Pompano, Fla., Megan Roweof Chicora, Mike Renick of Grove City Jackie Renick of Pompano Beach, Fla., and Brenda Dolan of Grove City; and a step-grandson, Joseph J. Durso III of Wildwood, N.J. Also surviving are seven great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
Her first husband, Charles L. Smith, who she married March 23, 1943, died Aug. 10, 1993. She also was preceded in death by two sons, Kenneth L. and Charles L. Smith Jr., and a sister, Mary Kathleen Dobson.
<B>DURSO-SMITH</B> — A memorial service for Geraldine Laura "Gerry" Smith-Durso, who died Tuesday, April 1, 2008, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Center Presbyterian Church of Slippery Rock with the Rev. James Boos, interim pastor, officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in Fellowship Hall of the church.Memorial contributions may be given to Center Presbyterian Church.Arrangements are being handled by <B>Smith Funeral Home</B>, Slippery Rock.
