ALLIANCE, Ohio — Seneca Valley running back James Daniels will continue his academic and football career at Mount Union College.

The Purple Raiders were NCAADivision IIIrunner-ups this past season and have won 16 consecutive Ohio Athletic Conference titles.

Daniels had 155 carries for 564 yards and eight touchdowns for the Raiders last season. He also caught 124 passes for 123 yards.

Joe Boros, the head golf professional at Treesdale Golf and Country Club, was named the Tri-State Section recipient of the Bill Strausbaugh Award.The award is designed to recognize PGA professionals who, through their day-to-day efforts, distinguish themselves by mentoring fellow professionals in improving their employment situations and through service to the community.

LOS ANGELES — Kobe Bryant won his first MVP award on Tuesday after leading the Los Angeles Lakers to the best record in the Western Conference.He entered the season as the league's two-time defending scoring champion. He had finished as high as third in the MVP voting twice — after the 2002-03 season, when he averaged 30 points for the first time, and last year when Dallas' Dirk Nowitzki won.

NEW YORK — The Major League Baseball players' association has expressed concern to the commissioner's office over the lack of offers to Barry Bonds, asking for additional information about the offseason's free-agent market.The union did not file a collusion grievance on behalf of Bonds, who remains unsigned since the San Francisco Giants decided not to make him an offer last year.
