William R. McCoy Sr.
William R. McCoy Sr., 82, of Waynesboro, formerly of Natrona Heights, died Thursday at Chambersburg Hospital.
Born June 23, 1925, in Lower Burrell Township, Westmoreland County, he was a son of Samuel Raymond Sr. and Anna Mae Ramsey McCoy.
He was a graduate of the Machinist Trade School at the National Youth Administration School in New Kensington, and he retired as a maintenance supervisor at the Brackenridge Plant of Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corp. He retired following 39 years in 1987. Prior to that, he worked as an electrician for six years for Alcoa in New Kensington.
He was a World War II veteran of the Army-Air Corps and was a life member of VFW Post 5758 in Tarentum.
He enjoyed building and flying remote control aircraft models and was a member of several Western Pennsylvania flying clubs. He also enjoyed golfing, bingo and painting.
He was formerly a member of Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Church in Natrona Heights.
Surviving are two sons, William R. McCoy Jr. of Butler and Danny McCoy of Apollo; two daughters, Kathleen (Theodore) Reedy of Waynesboro, with whom he made his home since 2006, and Janet (Howard) Mays of Southaven, Miss.; 11 grandchildren, Michele, Will, Shawn, Patrick, Colleen, Caitlin and Michael McCoy, and Patty McCoy-Roberts, Teddy Reedy, Shannon Reedy and Andy Mays; and a great-grandson, Zachery Roberts. A special sister-in-law, Carol (Ralph) McClafferty of Butler, also survives.
His wife, Norma Jean Burns McCoy, who he married July 17, 1948, preceded him in death April 4, 2003. A brother and three sisters also preceded him.
