Mary E. Cranmer Huff
Mary Elizabeth Cranmer Huff, 88, of Saxonburg, formerly of Butler, Prospect and Mount Chestnut, died Tuesday at Alle-Kiski Medical Center in Natrona Heights.
She was born May 4, 1919, in Mount Chestnut to John Burton and Lena Patterson Cranmer.
She graduated from Butler County Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1940 and received her school nursing certificate from Penn State College, now Penn State University. Before she married, she was a school nurse, and later she worked at Butler Memorial in the medical-surgical unit. She retired after 20 years.
Mrs. Huff was a member of St. Christopher at the Lake Catholic Church in Prospect, the St. Christopher Women's Guild, the East Butler Women's Archery Club and the Nurses Alumnae Association.
She was an avid reader, and even after losing her sight eight years ago, she listened to thousands of books on tape. Mary was particularly fond of archeological books, historical books and Bible study. She enjoyed traveling, crocheting, political debates and family visits.
Surviving are three sons, Leonard Huff and his wife, Linda, of Prospect, David Huff and his wife, Grace, of Bakersfield, Calif., and George Huff and his wife, Donna, of Butler; three daughters, Conne Elizabeth McCormick of Saxonburg, Dorothy Jane Hamilton and her husband, John, of Mims, Fla., and Mary Darlene Skuse of Tucson, Ariz.; 16 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Other surviving family members include two brothers, John B. Cranmer and his wife, Joanne, of Mount Chestnut and Clarence J. Cranmer and his wife, Delores, of Lake Mary, Fla.
Her husband, Leonard Anthony Huff, who she married June 13, 1942, died Nov. 5, 1999. Also preceding her in death were two sisters, Agnes Cowan and Jane Barkley; and a brother, Charles Cranmer.
<B>HUFF</B> — Friends of Mary Elizabeth Cranmer Huff, who died Tuesday, April 29, 2008, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at <B>Raisley Funeral Home</B>, 387 Main St., Prospect. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Christopher at the Lake Catholic Church, Prospect.
