Jefferson Harmon
Jefferson Harmon, 84, of Prospect died early Wednesday morning at Butler Memorial Hospital after an illness.
Born March 8, 1924, in Bessemer, he was the son of William Jefferson and Lena Buyers Harmon.
He was a Navy veteran and retired from Halstead after 27 years as a maintenance foreman.
Mr. Harmon was a member of The Presbyterian Church of Prospect, where he served once as an elder. He and his wife were former members of the Friday Night Couples Golf League at the Stoughton Acres Golf Course.
Mr. Harmon liked to golf, fish and spent his winters in Florida, where he enjoyed playing shuffle board.
He is survived by his wife, Hattie Marbell Harmon, who he married April 26, 1947; two daughters, Kathleen Gallagher and her husband, David, of Prospect and Wendy Stitler of Portersville; his grandchildren Lynn Peters and her husband, Donald, of Prospect, Chad Gallagher and his wife, Crystal, of North Washington and Robert Stitler Jr., and Michele Powell and her husband, William, all of Portersville; great-grandchildren, Gregory Baker and his wife, Shannon, of Conway, Zachery Baker of Washington, D.C., who is serving in the Army, Victoria Allen of Prospect and Kaitlyn Wright and Tyler Powell, both of Portersville; and a great-great-grandson, Sebastian Baker of Conway. He also is survived by a brother, Wayne Harmon of Evergreen Nursing Home; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers.
<B>HARMON</B> — Friends of Jefferson Harmon, who died Wednesday, May 2, 2008, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the <B>Edward L. Raisley Funeral Home</B>, 387 Main St., Prospect. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at The Presbyterian Church of Prospect with the Rev. Dana Opp officiating.
