Robert Davis of Worthington celebrated his 85th birthday recently with a picnic at his daughter's home in Prospect.

Davis was born June 7, 1923, in Cowansville. He married Gladys Taylor on Dec. 14, 1940.

They have three children, John Davis of Cowansville, Ralph Davis of Worthington and Janet Jesteadt of Prospect. A son, Fred Davis, is deceased.

Davis has 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Davis is a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He worked in strip mining at Beckwith Machinery and Seechan Limestone and as a truck driver for Wayne Sell Trucking. He retired in March 2000. He enjoys fishing, hunting and spending time with his great-grandchildren.
