Mae Jeanette Engle, 87, of Waxhaw, N.C., formerly of Butler, died unexpectedly Thursday morning at her home.

She was born in Butler on Aug. 12, 1920, a daughter of Albert L. and Helen Eichenlaub Wellner.

A homemaker, Mrs. Engle moved from Butler to Fort Myers, Fla., in 1973 and lived there for more than 30 years. She moved in with her son in North Carolina three years ago.

She was a former member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Butler.

She is survived by five sons, Roger A. Engle of Knox, Pa., Dennis W. Engle of Branford, Fla., Fred E. Engle of Butler, Albert E. Engle of Mallorca, Spain, and Edgar R. Engle of Waxhaw, N.C.; three daughters, Carol A. Ietto of Butler, Susan J. Driscoll of Cape Coral, Fla., and Kristin E. Anguish of Cross City, Fla.; one brother, Russell F. Wellner of Butler; 12 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

She was the widow of Edgar E. Wellner. They were married June 24, 1939, and he died Feb. 21, 1990.

She also was preceded by one grandson, Tyler C. Engle; four brothers, and two sisters.

<B>Engle</B> — There will be no visitation, and funeral services will be private for Mae Jeanette Engle, who died Thursday, May 22, 2008.Arrangements are by the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St. Interment will be in Butler County Memorial Park Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Butler Area Public Library, 218 N. McKean St., Butler, PA 16001.
