2 parades launch Fourth party

Mars hosts bicycles first

MARS — The borough's Independence Day celebration will commence with two afternoon parades.

The decorated bicycle parade and the regular Fourth of July parade will begin at Arch Street, cross Anderson and proceed down Beaver Street to Grand Avenue.

The decorated bicycle parade, which is for is for children ages 1 to 11, will begin at 5 p.m. All bikes must be decorated, and prizes will be awarded to participants in categories 1 to 5 years old and 6 to 11 with the best bike decorations.

The bike parade will be led by the Mars police, followed by Quality Emergency Medical Services vehicles.

Those participating in the bike parade must meet on Arch Street by Marburger Field at 4 p.m.

The regular parade will begin at 6 p.m., and will be led by members of the Butler County Sheriff's Posse and the Mars High School Fightin' Planets Marching Band.

Floats, antique cars, community groups, emergency vehicles and other entries will be featured in the parade.

Participants are to meet at Marburger Field no later than 5 p.m. to line up.

Children's games, face-painting and other activities will be ongoing at the intersection of Pittsburgh Street and Grand Avenue. Prizes will be awarded in the children's games.

The celebration culminates with a fireworks display over the borough at 10 p.m., courtesy of the borough council and Adams Township.

There will be no community day or activities at the borough swimming pool.
