Mildred J. "Millie" Hawkins, 87, of Middlesex Township died Saturday afternoon at UPMC Passavant Hospital in McCandless Township.

Born in Pittsburgh, July 31, 1920, she was the daughter of John P. and Olga Kuschel Sirney.

Mrs. Hawkins retired as a postal clerk at the Valencia Post Office, where she worked for more than 20 years.

She was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Mars and was a volunteer and past board member at St. John Specialty Care Center in Mars. She also was a member and past president of the Richland Civic Club.

Mrs. Hawkins assisted and moved many shut-ins and disabled persons in the area.

Surviving are her husband, Matthew T. Hawkins Sr., whom she married Feb. 10, 1945; five daughters, Margaret "Peggy" Simmons and her husband, Tim, of New York, N.Y., Ellen Flemma, Jane Peterson and her husband, Greg, and Elizabeth "Liz" McMeekin and her husband, Tom, all of Valencia, and Ann McNulty and her husband, Tim, of Harmony; a son, Dr. Matthew Hawkins Jr., M.D., and his wife, Lin, of Pacifica, Calif.; two sisters, Betty Fusan of California and Jeanne Jones and her husband, Rick, of Arizona, three brothers, Col. John A. Sirney and his wife, Margie, of Florida, Robert A. Sirney and his wife, Ruth, of Gibsonia and Richard P. Sirney and his wife, Lois, of Florida; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Lois Barto, Charlotte Dormeyer and Olga Dawson; and a brother, Howard V. Sirney.

<B>HAWKINS</B> — Friends of Mildred J. "Millie" Hawkins, who died Saturday, June 14, 2008, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the <B>McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home</B>, 238 Crowe Ave. Mars. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the St. John Lutheran Church, Mars, with the Rev. Robert Strobel officiating.
