Marvin G. Porter, 84, of Cabot, formerly of Harrison Township, died Friday at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.

Born in Tarentum on May 21, 1924, he was the son of Charles S.Porter and Marian McKinney.

He served in the Navy during World War II and the Korean War, serving as a quartermaster 1st class. His tours of duty included several Naval bases in the United States and in Brazil, South America. He also served aboard a Navy Destroyer DD880 in the Pacific theater of operations.

He was a 1942 graduate of Har-Brack High School and a 1966 graduate of the University of Wisconsin School of Banking.

He was a banker for 38 years and served as an officer and branch manager, primarily with the Peoples National Bank in Tarentum, now Southwest Bank, and Union National Bank in Tarentum, now National City Bank. He retired in 1987.

He was a member of the Natrona Heights Church of The Brethren in Harrison Township.

He was a former member and director of the Allegheny Valley YMCA; former member, treasurer and president of the Allegheny Valley Y's men's club; former member, director, and president of the Allegheny Valley Chamber of Commerce; and former member, treasurer and president of the Tarentum Area Lions Club. He was also a life member of the Natrona Heights VFW 894 and a trustee.

He was a history buff who enjoyed collecting family photographs and Navy memorabilia. He also enjoyed dancing and traveling.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Florence Bergstrom Porter. They lived in Apartment 1212, 148 Marwood Road, Cabot, at Concordia Lutheran Ministries Haven 2.

Also surviving are three daughters, Marilyn Simmons and her husband, Vernon, of Saxonburg, Joyce Nyardy and her husband, Nicholas, of Salem, Ohio, and Pamela Ortz and her husband, Richard, of Cabot; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Ritter and her husband, Kenneth, of Murraysville, and Janice Schiebel of Cabot.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Wanda Lightbody; and a brother, Charles Porter.

Porter, who died Friday,June 20, 2008, will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the <B>KRYNICKI FUNERAL HOME INC</B>., 1007 Freeport Road, Natrona Heights. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Jack Hartman, pastor at Concordia, officiating.Interment will be in Mount Airy Cemetery, Harrison Township.
