Catherine "Kay" Daugherty, 85, of Butler died Sunday afternoon at the Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia Lutheran Ministries in Cabot.

Born Dec. 9, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Anna Bachura Cygan.

Mrs. Daugherty was a 1940 graduate of Butler High School.

Kay retired from the Butler School District in 1996, where she was as a secretary in the business office of the Central Administration Building for more than 31 years. For a time, she also served as secretary of the Adult Evening School program in addition to working as secretary of the Butler School Board and the switchboard operator. Prior to that, she worked for Montgomery Ward and Western Auto in Butler.

Mrs. Daugherty attended St. Fidelis Catholic Church in Meridian where she was a member of the Christian Mothers/Women's Guild. She also was a member of the A.A.R.P. and the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees.

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Konieczny and her husband, Matthew, of Butler and a granddaughter, Rachel Catherine Konieczny, at home; two sisters, Mrs. Ann (Emilio) Russo and Mrs. Helen (Andrew) Puvak and one brother Andrew (Norma) Cygan, all of Butler.

Her husband, Patrick C. Daugherty, whom she married June 7, 1952, died Nov. 20, 1969. She also was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Yurkovich; and four brothers, Michael, John and George Cygan and an infant twin brother.

<B>DAUGHERTY</B> — Friends of Catherine J. Daugherty, who died Sunday, June 22, 2008, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Fidelis Catholic Church, 125 Buttercup Road, Meridian. The Rev. James Murphy, pastor, will be the celebrant. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.The Bereavement Committee of St. Fidelis Parish will conduct a scriptural Vigil service at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.Information also is available at www.geibelfuneralhome.com.
