George J. Rodgers

Rodgers

George Joseph "Rabbit" Rodgers Sr., 78, of Carbon Center and Butler, went to be with the Lord at 9:40 a.m. Monday at the Butler Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Carbon Center, Jan. 6, 1930, he was the son of Joseph P. and Marie Geibel Rodgers.

He was a member of the St. Wendelin Roman Catholic Church of Carbon Center and the Holy Name Society of the church and was a life member of East Butler Volunteer Fire Department.

He was an Army veteran. He enlisted Jan. 6, 1949, and served with C Battery 41st FA Battalion until Jan. 5, 1950, achieving the rank of private first class.

He enjoyed farming, hunting, word search books and spending time with his family.

Mr. Rodgers was a well-known auto mechanic, having worked at the Cook Garage, Walkers Garage and Zellsman's Motor Co., all of Butler and retired from Kar Kare of Lyndora in 1992.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Edna Hays Rodgers, who he married Aug. 30, 1950, at the Old St. Mary Roman Catholic Church in Cumberland, Md.; four daughters, Linda Sue Young and her husband, James Jr. of Butler, Carol Ann Rodgers and her companion, Scott Logan of Chicora, Bonnie Lou Bane and her husband, Tom of East Brady and Lisa Marie Rodgers of Butler; two sons, George Joseph Rodgers Jr. and his wife, Nancy of Butler and David Vincent Rodgers Sr. and his companion, Kathy Hauserman of Chicora; 26 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary L. Butler of Butler; seven brothers, Clyde, Paul, Leo, Regis and Gerald Rodgers, all of Butler, Carl Rodgers of Alaska and Edward Rodgers of Portersville; and three aunts, Josephine Ball and Mary Geibel, both of Chicora, and Shirley Geibel of Petrolia.

He was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter.

<B>RODGERS</B> — Friends of George Joseph "Rabbit" Rodgers Sr., who died Monday, June 23, 2008, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the <B>STEIGHNER FUNERAL HOME</B>, 111 E. Slippery Rock St., Chicora. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday from St. Wendelin Roman Catholic Church, Carbon Center Road, with the Rev. Harry Bielewicz officiating. Burial will be in St. Wendelin Church Cemetery.Military honors will be provided by Chicora VFW, Chicora American Legion, and the 99th Regional Readiness Command of Coraopolis, officiating.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mary Rodgers, 525 Fallecker Road, Butler, PA 16002.
