PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Pirates called up right-hander Jason Davis from Triple-A Indianapolis and sent former first-round draft pick John Van Benschoten back to the minor leagues before Sunday's game against the San Diego Padres.

Davis was 6-9 with a 4.41 ERA in 21 appearances for Indianapolis. The 28-year-old had been the team's best starter of late, with a 2-0 record and a 1.95 ERA in his past four outings.

Right-hander Jeff Karstens, one of three starting pitchers picked up Saturday in a six-player trade with the Yankees, will join the team Monday and is expected to take Van Benschoten's spot in the rotation, general manager Neal Huntington said.

The Eagle County Baseball League has determined its playoff brackets.Top-seeded Mars (25-3-1) and Saxonburg (19-9-1) both earned byes in the first round.The first-round will be a best-of-3 format beginning tonight with Wexford (15-12-1) visiting Natrona Heights (17-13) at 6 p.m. at Highlands High School and Cranberry Township (16-13) traveling to Mars II (16-11-1) at 6 p.m. at Marburger Field.The first round will be played today through Wednesday, if necessary.

The East Butler 9-10 year old Little League baseball team dropped a 1-0 decision to DuBois in the Section 1 tournament title game Sunday in Emlenton.DuBois received a combined no-hitter from starter Jake Miknis and John Oberlin.

TORONTO — Rafael Nadal beat Nicolas Kiefer 6-3, 6-2 on Sunday to win the Rogers Cup, his fifth straight tournament victory.The second-seeded Spaniard has won 29 consecutive matches and seven tournaments — including the French Open and Wimbledon — this year. This was his first hard court win this season.
