Registered offender sentenced to prison
A registered sex offender was sentenced to up to 23 months in the county prison for a new crime Wednesday.
Donald Kester, 25, was ordered to spend 11½ to 23 months in prison, followed by a year on probation by Butler County Judge Tim McCune.
He pleaded guilty to corruption of a minor July 9. In his plea agreement, two charges of failure to comply with Megan's Law were dismissed.
Butler police arrested Kester in January for not notifying authorities he had moved to a new apartment on Standard Avenue from New Castle Street, as he was required to do.
Kester is listed on the state police Web site as a sexual offender stemming from a 2005 felony conviction in Butler County for photographing a child in a sex act.
Police were tipped off in January that a 14-year-old girl in the new apartment and went to investigate. Kester denied anyone else was in the apartment, but police found the girl standing in the bathroom.
Kester first told police he believed the girl was 18; however, he later acknowledged he knew she was a minor.
Kester will receive credit for 184 days of time served.
