BUFFALO, N.Y. — Zach Jackson allowed three runs and six hits over 6X\c innings to lead the Buffalo Bisons, the Cleveland Indians' Class AAA affiliate, to a 5-3 victory over the Indianapolis Indians Thursday.
Jackson, a Seneca Valley graduate, struck out four batters and walked one as he improved to 3-1 on the season, along with 20 strikeouts, five walks and a 4.05 ERA.
PINE TWP — The Butler seventh-grade boys summer basketball team captured the Pine-Richland Tournament with wins over Hampton 36-27 and Seneca Valley 34-22.In the win over Hampton, Tom Jendesky had 10 points and Lucas Wesolek added nine. Against Seneca Valley, Alec Geibel tallied 11 points and Wesolek chipped in with seven.
BEIJING — Bantamweight Gary Russell Jr. will miss the Olympics after collapsing while trying to make weight, leaving the American boxing team without one of its top medal hopes.U.S. coach Dan Campbell said Russell, a two-time national champion, was found unconscious and severely dehydrated early this morning by his roommate, light flyweight Luis Yanez.Medical personnel at the athletes' village rehydrated Russell, but he wasn't healthy enough to participate in today's weigh-in. Russell was resting after failing in a dangerous final effort to reach the 119-pound limit.
