Marion Stanko Zotter

Zotter

Marion Stanko Zotter, 90, passed away June 21 in San Antonio, Texas.

As a mother, Mrs. Zotter was a Meridian School PTA president and helped establish the hot lunch program there in the 1950s. She worked with community members to establish the auxiliary side to the then newly formed Meridian Little League. She served as her son's den mother for Cub Scouts, remaining active with Boy Scouts. Her daughters had her support in leadership in Brownies, Girl Scouts, with their church Missionary Circles, on the board of the Meridian Rainbow Assembly as one daughter became worthy advisor and in Eastern Star as another daughter became worthy matron.

In the Meridian United Presbyterian Church, of which Mrs. Zotter had been a member since 1949, she served as a deacon and elder, belonged to various missionary circles, worked diligently for the Beaver-Butler Presbytery and Mars Youth Home and worked to establish a sewing group which meets monthly at the church to make lab robes which are donated to organizations or needy individuals.

As a clubwoman, Mrs. Zotter belonged to the Buttercup Garden Club, the former Woman's Club of Meridian, the Butler Federated Woman's Club, the Greater Pennsylvania Federation of Woman's Clubs, the Bonnets and Bi-Focals Red Hatters and the Butler Doll Club. She was an active member serving as an officer in several of these organizations, often more than once, and she could be found enjoying traveling about the county and state fulfilling her responsibilities.

As a community member, Mrs. Zotter believed in participating. She worked the refreshment stand for Little League in the beginning, could be found serving for her church or the Meridian Volunteer Fire Ladies Auxiliary at the Farm Show and/or donating food for them; frequently had some craft or baked good, canned good, flower or piece of stitchery entered in the competitions with ribbons to show for her talents. Mrs. Zotter worked as a packer and sometime deliverer for Meals on Wheels, and along with her late husband, had been recognized by both PARC and Pullman Standard for her volunteer work in the community for Sunnyview, UCP and the Red Cross.

During Butler County's Bi-Centennial celebration, Mrs. Zotter was chosen to chair one of the countywide committees. Part of her efforts was to put together a flag collection from the 13 original colonies with accompanying descriptive paragraphs. During the 1976-77 school year, Mrs. Zotter visited schools throughout the county, in period attire, sharing her flag collection and information. She acquired quite a bit of memorabilia during that period, some of which can be found at the Butler County Historical Society as a result of her pursuits and thoughtfulness.

Mrs. Zotter was preceded in death by her husband, Anton "Tony" Zotter; a granddaughter, Rebecca Ann Zotter; as well as her five siblings.

She is survived by three children, Gretchen Zotter of San Antonio, Texas; Anton Zotter of Indianapolis, Ind., and Marion (Mrs. Arthur) Eckstein of Renfrew; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren. She will be missed.
