Jack R. Barkman, 80, of Saxonburg died Tuesday at his home.

Born Dec. 25, 1927, in Hustontown, Pa., he was the son of Ross and Hazel Reeder Barkman.

He was the owner and operator of Jack Barkman Excavating Inc.

He was a Navy veteran of WWII. He was a member of the Armstrong Lodge 239 F&AM, the New Castle Consistory and the Syria Shrine. He enjoyed NASCAR, golfing and hunting.

Surviving are his four daughters, Toni DeMott of Norwich, N.Y., Jackie Barkman and Mrs. Larry (Brenda) Huffman, both of Saxonburg, and Mrs. Richard (Karen) Macurdy of Butler; nine grandchildren, Matthew Barkman, David and Kim DeMott, Kory and Kathy Guynup, Kristin and Kevin Miller, Jeremy Macurdy and Lukas Macurdy; four great-grandchildren, Tyler Barkman, Dakota Snyder, Mercedes Guynup and Koolbie Guynup; one brother, Larry Barkman of Clebourne, Texas; and one sister, Evelyn Laidig of Gaithersburg, Md.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Emma Grace Newman Barkman, who passed away on May 22, 2008; one grandson, Adam Huffman; one sister, and one brother.

<B>BARKMAN </B>— Friends of Jack R. Barkman, who died Tuesday, July 8, 2008, will be received 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at the <B>Fox Funeral Home</B>, 410 W. Main St., Saxonburg. Services will follow at 2 p.m. with Sue Mayer officiating. Interment will follow in St. Luke's Cemetery in Saxonburg.Memorial donations may be made to the VNA Hospice of Western PA, 154 Hindman Road, Butler PA 16001.
