Dorothy J. Maurhoff, 96, of Main Street, Bruin, died Thursday at Butler Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.

She was born in Bruin on June 26, 1912, and was a daughter of Osmer Bertis Slagle and Pearl Fletcher Slagle.

She was a lifelong member of the Bruin United Methodist Church and the IXLSunday school class there.

She was a graduate of the Bruin High School and was a member of the Bruin Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and had served as its chaplain.

In her younger years, she worked at Black's store in Bruin.

Surviving are four sons, Doyle F. Maurhoff and his wife, Mary Jo, of North Washington, Norman Leroy Maurhoff of Fort Worth, Texas, Charles Bruce Maurhoff and his wife, Doris Jean, of Bruin, and Russell Vincent Maurhoff and his fiance, Terri Hawk Simpson, of Bruin; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Mary Louise Landers of Forth Worth, Texas; four sisters-in-law, Mrs. Helen Slagle of Bruin, Mrs. Viola Slagle of Butler and formerly of Bruin, Mrs. Alice Louise Gibson and her husband, Frank, of Farmington, N.M., and Mrs. Olive Konopisos of Tarentum; two brothers-in-law, Larry Laconi of New Haven Court, Butler, and Joseph Backstatter of Broadheadsville, Pa.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She married Leroy B. "Deac" Maurhoff, and he preceded her in death on June 19, 1994.

Also preceding her in death were six brothers, Charles "Pete" Slagle, Virgil Slagle, Robert "Robbie" Slagle, Russell "Bob" Slagle, William Slagle and Richard "Binnie"Slagle; and three sisters, Mrs. Marjorie Klingensmith, Mrs. Enid Black and Mrs. Margaret "Peg" Backstatter.

<B>MAURHOFF</B> — Friends of Dorothy J. Maurhoff, who died Thursday, July 10, 2008, will be received 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the <B>Richard D. Hillis Funeral Home</B>, Petrolia.Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Wade Berkey, pastor of the Bruin United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in the Bear Creek Cemetery, Petrolia.Memorial donations may be made to the Bruin United Methodist Church, Bruin, PA 16022, care of Lynn Vereb, treasurer.
