Canoe access funds made available by Conservancy

BLAIRSVILLE — The Western Pennsylvania Conservancy is accepting applications for the establishment and improvement of canoe and kayak access sites to the region's waterways.

Selected applicants will receive up to $4,000 to improve waterway recreation access locations in Western Pennsylvania.

Online applications are available on the conservancy's Web site at www.waterlandlife.org/112/conserving-water. Applications must be postmarked by Sep. 5.

Grant awardees will be notified by early October.

The grants may be used for these expenses:

• Adding parking for a few vehicles

• Creating stabilized access areas and paths to the waterway

• Buying voluntary conservation agreements and/or riverside properties

• Paying for a portion of a larger land tract for access

• Upgrading an existing access location
