Warriors run over Lions in 47-0 rout

CLARION — The yardage totals told the story: Moniteau 311, Clarion-Limestone 22.

The Moniteau High football team dominated Clarion-Limestone in a Keystone Shortway Athletic Conference game Friday night as the Warriors rolled to a 47-0 rout.

Moniteau starters played only one half.

"We played a lot of kids tonight, and, like I've said before, the strength of our team is going to be our depth," said Moniteau coach Jeff Campbell.

Moniteau (2-0, 1-0) showcased that depth by utilizing 10 different ball carriers. Three of those runners gained 30 or more yards in each the first half.

Moniteau posted an 18-point first quarter, capitalizing on three Clarion-Limestone turnovers.

The scoring in the first quarter began with a Tyler Armagost 1-yard run, continued with a James Shope 34-yard run and finished with Andrew Wiegand pounding his way into the end zone with 1:34 to go in the quarter.

Moniteau defensive back Victor Santoyo set up two of those scores with interceptions.

Clarion-Limestone's offense had no answer for the Warriors' defense. For the second straight week, Moniteau saw strong play from defensive lineman Warren Christy.

"We move him around in our defense, and he is solid and steady," said Campbell.

A little more than three minutes into the second quarter, the Warriors capped a four-play, 74-yard drive with a 40-yard touchdown run by Austin Hogsett.

The second quarter was filled with penalties, most of which were committed by Moniteau, allowing Clarion-Limestone to keep its offense on the field for 35 plays in the quarter.

"I'm not very happy with all of the penalties," Campbell said. "We cannot go out and commit penalties like that."

Moniteau tacked on a score in the crisply played third quarter on a 9-yard run from Andrew Wiegand.

Clarion-Limestone linebacker Mike White was one of the main reasons the Lions were able to keep the Moniteau offense somewhat at bay.

"He's one of our two seniors, and he's a good football player," said Clarion-Limestone coach Todd Smith.

Moniteau sealed the deal with a strong 3-yard run by Jeffrey McFadden.

Despite the lopsided win, Campbell isn't allowing his team to look too far ahead.

"We take it one play at a time, one series at a time, one game at a time," Campbell said. "Now our focus is looking ahead to Punxutawney."

Notes: All of Moniteau's scores were on running plays. ... Shope was the Warriors' leading rusher with 56 yards. ... Moniteau back-up kicker Dylan McAnallen converted all three of his extra point attempts. ... Clarion-Limestone had minus-43 yards rushing.
