Frances C. Pitera Zedreck, 86, of Meridian, formerly of West Sunbury, passed away at 1:40 a.m. Tuesday at the Good Samaritan Hospice in Cabot following a brief illness.

She was born March 21, 1922, in Farrell. She was the daughter of the late Andrew Pitera and Anna Novicki Pitera.

She was a member of the St. Fidelis Catholic Church in Meridian and a former member of the St. Louis Catholic Church in West Sunbury. She was an active Christian mother at both parishes.

She worked part time as a cook in the cafeteria at Moniteau High School for numerous years.

After retiring, Frances enjoyed taking care of her husband, children, grandchildren great-grandchildren, her dogs, her flowers and watching television and doing puzzle books.

She is survived by three sons, Edward Zedreck and his wife, Karen, of Meridian, Gerald Zedreck and his wife, Rebecca, of Acme and Michael Zedreck of Gibsonia; eight grandchildren, Eddie Joe and his wife, Crystal, of Chicora, Mark and Tammy of Meridian, Melissa and her husband, Mark Timblin, of Butler, Nicole and Christopher of Butler, and Courtney and Colin of Cranberry Township; three great-grandchildren, Rebba of Chicora and Logan and Wyatt Timblin, both of Butler; two sisters, Rosie and her husband, Alex Pink, of Ohio and Anna Gargasz of New Castle; and numerous nieces and nephews across the United States.

Her husband, Edward J. Zedreck, whom she married Sept. 21, 1948, passed away March 1, 2005. She also was preceded in death by five sisters, Genevieve Gargasz, Catherine Chestley, Helen Lombardo, Mary Gargasz and Barbara Bovard; and two brothers, Adolph "Joseph" Pitera and Peter Pitera.

<B>ZEDRECK</B> — Friends of Frances C. Pitera Zedreck, who died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2008, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 Friday at the <B>William F. Young Funeral home</B>, 132 Main St., West Sunbury. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at the St. Louis Catholic Church in West Sunbury with Father James Bedillion officiating. Burial will be in the St. Anthony Cemetery in Harrisville.The family suggests memorial donations be made to the St. Louis Catholic Church in West Sunbury or to the American Legion Post 243 in West Sunbury.
