Catherine D. Duerr

Catherine D. Duerr, 92, of Cabot, formerly of Freeport, died peacefully at 8:55 p.m. Friday at Good Samaritan Hospice Unit at Concordia.

Born Sept. 6, 1915, in Freeport, she was the daughter of Albert and Clara Alice Bermont Duerr.

She was a member of Freeport United Methodist Church. She also was a member of Freeport Cavalier Sisterhood Dames of Malta.

She graduated from Freeport School District and, in 1933, became a Pennsylvania Certified Beautician and worked for her sister Grace's beauty shop in Freeport. From 1943 until she retired in 1979 she was employed at North Pittsburgh Telephone Company as a telephone operator and customer service representative.

Some of her favorite memories were many years of family parties, picnics and swimming on the family farm in Sarver, which was subdivided to build the Buffalo Elementary School. Christmases were always filled with family, friends, baked goods, a million decorations and, most importantly, church. Catherine remembered the family's notorious Halloween costume parties in their garage filled with food, decorations, costumed dummies and donkey-drawn hay rides.

She also loved gardening, traveling and spending time with family and friends. This is the end of a very memorable era in the family. Catherine will be greatly missed by us all, but remembered always.

Catherine is survived by her sister-in-law Grace (Albert) Duerr of Buffalo Township; her niece Dianne Morrison of Buffalo Township; her nephew Barry Duerr of Buffalo Township; and two great-nephews, Andrew Morrison of Buffalo Township and Benjamin Morrison of Buffalo Township.

Catherine was preceded in death by her brother, Albert Duerr; her two sisters, Grace Baker and Laura McKlveen; and a niece, Loretta McKlveen.
