Don Montgomery

Montgomery

Don Montgomery passed away Monday at his home at 295 Rosemont Farm Road, Franklin.

Born in Emlenton, Sept. 16, 1926, he was the son of the late Trenna O. and Esther Kathryn Ferringer Montgomery.

He served in the U.S. Navy on a submarine in Pearl Harbor and in Iwo Jima, having enlisted at the age of 17. Mr. Montgomery received an honorable discharge.

Upon his return, he worked in auto sales in Franklin and Oil City. Mr. Montgomery joined John Conte to form C&M Sales in the mid-1960s. After many years of financial success, Mr. Montgomery retired in 2006 but continued to work as a consultant until his death.

Mr. Montgomery enjoyed being around people as part owner of The Carriage House in Franklin and Ricci's in Meadville. A member of the Franklin Club, Elks Lodge 110, Wanango Country Club and the VFW in Franklin and Taylor Hose in Meadville, he enjoyed socializing with his many friends and especially loved playing poker and auto racing.

In 1964, he married Doris Stephens Reib, who preceded him in death April 8.

Mr. Montgomery is survived by his son, Donald B. Montgomery and his partner, Michelle Stanton, of Phoenix; and stepdaughters, Nancy Reib Witherup and Sally Reib Kilmer, both of Franklin. Surviving grandchildren include Natalie Montgomery Ruckman and Nathan Montgomery, both of Las Vegas, Shawn Witherup of Kennerdell, Kelly Witherup Dolecki and her husband, Andy, of Oil City, Anna Kilmer of Clinton, Conn., Elizabeth Kilmer Culley and her husband, John, of Allentown, N.J., Alice Kilmer of Boulder, Colo., and Catherine Kilmer of Chevy Chase, Md.; along with 10 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Montgomery also is survived by his sisters, Mary Montgomery and twin sisters, Jane Montgomery Horneman and Jean Montgomery Barger and her husband, Cliff.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Montgomery was preceded in death by two of his brothers, Orville Montgomery and Larry Montgomery; and a sister, Anna Montgomery Kelly.

<B>MONTGOMERY </B>— Friends of Don Montgomery, who died Monday, Sept. 8, 2008, may call from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at the <B>Timothy E. Hartle Funeral Home</B>, 1328 Elk St., Franklin. Private graveside services will be held in Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens at the convenience of the family.Memorial contributions, if desired, may be directed to the Visiting Nurses Association of Venango County or the American Cancer Society.
