Shirley Ann "Mama Shirley" Palmer, 73, of Butler died at 1:30 a.m. Monday at her home after an illness.

She was born Feb. 19, 1935, in Pittsburgh, the daughter of the late Harry H. Niggel and the late Ida Anna (Dierdorf) Niggel.

She enjoyed playing cards, jigsaw puzzles, reading and collecting magnets.

She worked in the custodial department at Slippery Rock University.

Surviving are her daughter, Cindy Palmer of Butler; a stepson, Bill and Kim Palmer of Eau Claire; a step-granddaughter, Crystal Palmer; a step-grandson, James Palmer; two step-great-grandsons, Kaleb and Kooper Price; best friends, Drew and Debbie Andreozzi and family of Butler; a brother, Robert and Vera Niggel of Chicora; a niece; a nephew; two great-nieces; and three stepdaughters.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William R. Palmer, who died June 25, 1995, and two stepsons.

<B>PALMER</B> — Friends of Shirley Ann "Mama Shirley" Palmer, who died Monday, Sept. 22, 2008, will be received from 2 to 4 and from 6 until the service at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the <B>Young Funeral Home</B>, 127 W. Jefferson St. The Rev. Sherry Cook will officiate.
