Police: Carjacking suspect tried to force victim into van
The man accused of stealing a woman's minivan before he wrecked it at Routes 356 and 68 tried to force the woman into the van before he sped off.
In charges filed Wednesday by city police against 27-year-old David Robertson Jr. of Pittsburgh, police detail the carjacking.
A city woman reported to police that she was unloading groceries from her van in front of her West Penn Street home when a man approached her with a knife, according to court documents.
He demanded her vehicle's keys and tried to get her in the van, police said. She resisted and the man took the vehicle and left without her. She was able to give police a detailed description of the man.
While she was talking to police, Butler Township police reported a wreck involving a minivan matching the description of the victim's.
After the crash, police recovered a plastic knife inside the van, documents said.
The charges filed Wednesday at the office of District Judge Pete Shaffer include robbery of a motor vehicle, attempted kidnapping, unlawful restraint and terroristic threats.
