Officer put on leave; discipline may follow
SAXONBURG — Borough Mayor Brian Antoszyk said this morning that the officer-in-charge of the borough police is on administrative leave with pay and may face further disciplinary action.
Erik Bergstrom, 42, of Natrona Heights was placed on leave Jan. 30 for unspecified reasons.
The mayor said that Bergstrom was put on leave "until such time we take our next action."
While Antoszyk wouldn't divulge details of what led to the leave, he said the situation involves multiple incidents and could result in the borough doing more.
Borough council was told about the leave in an executive session on Feb. 4.
Antoszyk said the council could take other action at Wednesday's meeting.
Bergstrom joined the department in 1999, becoming officer-in-charge in 2001. He couldn't be reached for comment.
Bergstrom is one of two full-time borough officers. Three part-timers round out police coverage.
Borough controller Mary Papik said no additional part-timers have been hired.
"They are just working more hours," she said about the current part-timers.
