Man arrested for attack on woman on ride home
A 62-year-old man is accused of attacking and robbing a Butler woman of money and prescription drugs Wednesday evening after giving her a ride home from a Butler Township bar.
Butler police on Thursday arrested Gary Lee Renwick of Butler Township and charged him with robbery, theft and simple assault.
Tina English, 22, reported to police about 7:35 p.m. Wednesday that she had been robbed.
An officer went to her home and found her crying and holding ice on the left side of her face. The officer noted her face was bruised and swollen and her arms and chest were scratched.
She told police that Renwick had attacked her after driving her home from the Lyndora Hotel.
The alleged assault happened in the defendant's sport utility vehicle in front of English's home on Franklin Street.
"He struck her in the face," according to court documents, "then grabbed her face and pushed it against the passenger side window."
She said Renwick grabbed her purse. He allegedly took $500 and a bottle of OxyContin, for which English had a prescription. The bottle contained 59 pills of the painkiller.
"Mr. Renwick then threw the purse out of the vehicle," a police affidavit said, "and pushed Ms. English out with his feet."
The woman's boyfriend heard a commotion outside and went to check. He told police that he saw English on the ground and the defendant's white Chevrolet Blazer speeding away.
Police later got a search warrant for the Blazer, which turned up "a piece of torn cash" on the front passenger side floor.
Renwick was help briefly in the Butler County Prison, but he was released Thursday on $25,000 bond.
