Criley

Mary R. Criley, 84, formerly of Herman, died early Sunday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born March 29, 1924, in Herman, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Rose (Hartle) Knittel.

She was a homemaker and had worked at Tri-County Man Power for 15 years. She also had worked at Lowal's ladies store on Main Street and at the Bantam Car Co. during World War II.

She was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church and formerly was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church in Herman and the Christian Mothers at St. Mary's.

Mary was a former board member of A.R.C. in Butler and the Herman Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary. She had loved cooking, sewing, gardening, working crossword puzzles and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are three sons, Jerry (Amber) Criley, Harold "Jimmy" (Nancy) Criley Jr. and Bobby Criley, all of Butler; seven daughters, Judith Vaneman of Covington, Ga., Linda (Tony) Bonetti, Rose (Dan) Taylor, Mary (Fred) Green and Joan (Joseph) Steighner, all of Butler, Jean Wigton of Shallotte, N.C., and Grace (Leonard) Abbruzzese of Zelienople; 19 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Rose Steighner of Butler and Mildred Menz of Erie.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold J. "Tubbs" Criley, whom she married Dec. 27, 1945. He died Nov. 18, 1982. Two sisters also preceded her in death.

<B>Criley </B>— Friends of Mary R. Criley, who died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2009, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 432 Center Ave. Interment will be at St. Mary Cemetery, Herman.The Bereavement Committee of St. Michael's will conduct a parish vigil service at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.Additional information can be found and condolence messages placed at www.geibelfuneralhome.com.
