Rev. Gordon Quinnell
The Rev. Gordon N. Quinnell, 90, of Kittanning, formerly of Butler, died Sunday at the Good Samaritan Hospice of Concordia Lutheran Ministries, Cabot.
He was born Dec. 23, 1918, in Melfort, Saskat-chewan, Canada, to Charles and Elizabeth (Lembke) Quinnell.
Mr. Quinnell was raised in Melfort, where he became a farmer with the family farming business. He then moved from Canada to Pennsylvania and became a minister. In addition to being a school bus driver, he was the pastor of several churches in Armstrong and Jefferson counties.
Rev. Quinnell moved to the Butler area, where he was a longtime resident, before moving to Kittanning in 2005. He was a pastor of the Covenant Church of Butler from 1971 until his retirement in 1976.
After his retirement, he was employed for several years as a building maintenance person for Green View Gardens and the Morgan Management building, both of Butler, and the Lenape Vo-Tech School of Ford City.
Rev. Quinnell was a member of the Allegheny Wesleyan Methodist Church of Butler.
He enjoyed reading and gardening, and he had a great love for animals, especially horses and his two pet dogs, Mitzi and Bambi. He also took great pleasure in taking walks around his residence when he lived in Center Township.
He is survived by his wife, Leola A. (Edgington) Quinnell, whom he married March 11, 1944; two sons, G. Wayne Quinnell and Ralph D. Quinnell, both of Kittanning; five daughters, Judith L. Picard of Manorville, Joy A. Croyle of Adrian, Janet P. Bennett of Kittanning, Joyce E. Moyta of Ford City and Julie A. Zahradnik of Creekside; a daughter-in-law, Lana Quinnell of Indiana, Pa.; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and relatives in Canada.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, a son-in-law, five brothers and one sister.

Quinnell, who died Sunday, Feb. 15, 2009, will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the <B>Bauer Funeral Home</B>, 515 McKean St., Kittanning, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. James Lynn officiating.
