Messina

Judith L. Messina, 65, of 799 E. Main St. Ext., Grove City, Mercer Township, Butler County, since July 4, 1976, died at 2:50 p.m. Sunday at the Grove City Medical Center after an extended illness.

Born Jan. 14, 1944, in Grove City, she was the daughter of Joseph Enoch Filer Sr. and Frances Anna Kolb Filer.

She married Michael R. Messina on Feb. 27, 1965. He survives.

She was a homemaker and formerly worked at Reznor in Mercer from 1961 to 1968, where she was a shipping clerk.

She was a member of The Church of The Beloved Disciple, Grove City.

She was a graduate of Mercer High School, Class of 1961. She was received the Artillery Order of Molly Pitcher Award on May 4, 1996, for devoted service to the Field Artillery Community for Military Service.

She is survived by a son, Sean Messina and his wife, Lisa, of Harrisville; a granddaughter, Elena Messina of Grove City; four sisters, Eleanor "Dolly" Mirda of Mesa, Ariz., Marjorie Cross and her husband, Reed, of Fairview, Patricia McDannel of Dubois, and Virginia Filer of Pardoe; three brothers, Joseph E. Filer and his wife, Virginia M., of Grove City, Robert L. Filer and his wife, Helen M., of Grove City, and David J. Filer and his wife, Doris, of Stoneboro.

She was preceded in death by a son, Christopher J. Messina, in 2005; and brothers Merle "Gene" Filer and Peter Filer, who died as an infant.

<B>MESSINA</B>— A Mass of Christian burial for Judith L. Messina, who died Sunday, Feb. 15, 2009, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at The Church of The Beloved Disciple, Grove City, with the Rev. Mark Hoffman.Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at <B>Cunningham Funeral Home</B>, 306 Bessemer Ave, Grove City.
