Mary Hopper
Mary L. Vavro Hopper, 87, died Sunday at the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center while surrounded by her family.
Born Nov. 24, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Teofil and Mary Katherine Zharnak Vavro.
Having 11 brothers and sisters, she now joins eight of whom as she enters the glorious gates of Heaven.
During World War II, she worked at Armco for a brief time as the nation supported the troops.
Following a career path, she spent 24 years of loyal service at the Butler Hot Dog Shop; joyfully calling to whomever could hear, "Two hots, pickle also." The sound of her voice surely still rings in the rafters.
Ms. Hopper was a lover of life. She enjoyed playing bingo and always anything she could do with her family. Family was a vital aspect of her life; especially as the great-grandchildren came, there was more for her to love.
As we celebrate the life she lived and rejoice in the peace of her passing, her legacy will be carried on through those she has left behind.
Surviving are a son, Eugene Hopper and his wife, Barbara, of Connoquenessing; a daughter, Carol Ann Smith of Butler, wife of the late Joseph M. Smith Sr.; a grandson, Joseph Smith Jr., and his wife, Jennifer, and their children, Elizabeth and Nicolas; two granddaughters, Tina Raub and her husband, James, and their son, Tyler, and Lisa Reges and her husband, Chad, and their children Amanda, Jordan and Autumn; three sisters, Mrs. Helen Kosar, Mrs. Bill (Ann) Thomas and Mrs. Marge Gvoth; and numerous nieces and nephews.
