MINNEAPOLIS — Grove City College senior swimmer Caleb Courage won the NCAADivision III title in the men's 100 freestyle Saturday at the NCAASwimming and Diving Championships at Macalester College at the University of Minnesota.
It was Courage's third career title in that event.
Courage won the event with a time of 43.62 seconds after setting a new Division III record in the preliminaries with a time of 43.60.
Courage now has accumulated a school-record 17 NCAAAll-America citations in his career.
PALM HARBOR, Fla.— The greens were so crusty, firm and scary fast that Retief Goosen felt as though he was back at Shinnecock Hills, where his putting carried him to victory in the U.S. Open.Needing only two putts from 25 feet to win Sunday, he was thankful it didn’t turn out like Southern Hills.Goosen ran his putt 5 feet past the hole, steadied his nerves and curled in the par putt for a one-shot victory at the Transitions Championship, his first victory on the PGA Tour in nearly four years.
HUIXQUILUCAN, Mexico — The extra practice finally paid off for Pat Hurst.Hurst shot a 4-under 68 Sunday to beat top-ranked Lorena Ochoa and Yani Tseng by one stroke at the Mastercard Classic.Hurst sank a long putt on the 18th green at the tough BosqueReal Country Club to finish at 10-under 206. Top-ranked Ochoa (69) had three bogeys and six birdies, and Tseng (70) had three bogeys and five birdies.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Scott Dixon turned in the fastest lap Sunday during the opening day of a two-day Indy Racing League test session at Barber Motorsports Park.Dixon completed the 2.38-mile, 17-turn road course in 1:10.5005 for a lap speed of 117.445 mph.“The team has done a great job,” said Dixon, the 2008 IRL champion and Indy 500 champ. “Both the cars definitely have speed.”
