Coke oven catches on fire at Neville Island plant
PITTSBURGH Emergency dispatchers this morning said a coke oven caught fire at a plant just west of downtown Pittsburgh.
Allegheny County dispatchers say the call came in about 7:20 a.m. at a plant owned by Shenango on Neville Island. Neville Island is in the middle of the Ohio River.
There are no reports of injuries, but flames were visible.
Shenango's Web site says the company produces coke, a product produced by baking coal that is, in turn, used to fuel ovens for steelmaking and other industrial uses.
